Hopkinton Rail Road Company.   Organized in 1870 as a merger of the "Hopkinton and Milford Railroad", which ran from Hopkinton to Milford with the "Hopkinton Branch Railroad", which ran from Hopkinton to Ashland. Opened for service in 1872. The railroad connected to the "Milford and Woonsocket" and the "Milford Branch" railroads at Milford and to the Boston and Albany Railroad at Ashland. The total track length in 1872 was 11.5 miles. In 1873, it was authorized to extend to Framingham, Natick, Wayland and Weston, where it would connect to the "Massachusetts Central Railroad". The railroad was leased to the Providence and Worcester Railroad.
