Pembroke Iron Company. In 1849, the "William E. Coffin and Company" of Boston bought a location at the falls on the Pennamaquan in Pembroke ME. There they established the Pembroke Iron Works. The company soon became a large business in the small town, with over 300 employees producing 5000 tons of iron products a year. The company also ran a fleet of ships to bring in coal for the furnaces and ship out the finished goods. The company failed in 1884.
